Spoken

As a kid, I was an eavesdropper. I listened in to the adults when my parents hosted cocktail parties, and when I sat on the school bus my ears recorded what my classmates said. In my 20s, I was a radio dj, and I recorded my shows. I listened to my voice. A lot. And it made me wonder: What if recorded other people speaking? Finally, I did.

I was terrified to head into the backcountry of the Olympic rain forest.

I describe it all in a 2020 radio feature on KNKX, a local NPR affiliate.

An Olympia Family Comes To Terms With Their Trans Child

Growing up isn’t easy. It can be a lot harder if your family doesn’t understand you. In 2014, I met a young person whose mother accepted the child’s gender identity, while their father struggled.
